font-size: 16px;\">Friedel M\u00fcnch wird 1927 im hessischen Dorn-Assenheim geboren. In den Nachkriegsjahren richtet er sich bei seinem Vater, der eine Tankstelle und eine Horex-Vertretung betreibt, eine kleine Werkstatt ein. Dort lernt er schnell alle Arten von Motorr\u00e4der zu reparieren und\u00a0 \u2013 wegen des Mangels an Neuteilen \u2013 auch zu improvisieren. Die Not wird zur Tugend und f\u00fcr M\u00fcnch Junior der Beginn der ihn sein Leben lang begleitenden Arbeitsphilosophie \u201egeht nicht, gibt es nicht\u201c. font-size: 16px;\">Neben einer Ausbildung in Maschinenbau und Elektronik bastelt er an seiner 500er Horex S5 herum. Im Fr\u00fchjahr 1948 nimmt er mit der frisierten Einzylinder-Maschine an einem Rennen auf dem Hockenheimring teil. W\u00e4hrend er im Training noch mit einem Rundenschnitt von 147,2 km\/h die Konkurrenz beeindrucken kann, fliegt dann aber w\u00e4hrend des Rennens der Antrieb auseinander. Er baut daraufhin den Motor um, verpasst ihm einen Zylinderkopf mit zwei obenliegenden Nockenwellen, sowie eine K\u00f6nigswelle f\u00fcr den Antrieb. Nach dem Umbau erinnert nichts mehr an das Horex-Original. Er nennt das Motorrad \u201eM\u00fcnch-Spezial\u201c. Nach einem Rennsturz verabschiedet er sich vom Motorsport, aber nur als Fahrer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 16px;\">1955 arbeitet M\u00fcnch ein halbes Jahr lang in der Versuchs- und Rennabteilung von Horex in Bad Homburg. Ein Jahr sp\u00e4ter schlie\u00dft das Horex-Werk seine Pforten und der junge Techniker kauft schnell entschlossen deren gesamten Fertigungsvorrichtungen f\u00fcr die Motorenproduktion sowie das Ersatzteillager auf. M\u00fcnch kann nun selbst komplette Motoren erstellen. Und w\u00e4hrend der mehrfache Gespann-Weltmeister Klaus Enders mit einer 500er \u201eM\u00fcnch-Horex\u201c die ersten Erfolge verbucht, experimentiert M\u00fcnch an einem Vierzylinder-Aggregat sowie an einer leistungsf\u00e4higen Bremsanlage herum. 1964 ist die selbstentwickelte \u201eM\u00fcnch-Rennbremse\u201c, eine leistungsf\u00e4hige Vorderrad-Duplextrommelbremse, fertig. font-size: 16px;\">Die Fertigstellung seines Vierzylinderkopf-Motors zieht sich hinaus. Zwischenzeitlich hat sich der Techniker und Konstrukteur zum Entschlu\u00df durchgerungen, ein eigenes Stra\u00dfenmotorrad zu entwickeln. Er verzichtet auf ein eigens entwickeltes Antriebsaggregat und baut kurzerhand um den gerade in jenen Tagen vorgestellten Vierzylinder-Motor des NSU 1000 herum sein eigenes Motorrad \u2013 alle erforderlichen Teile werden von ihm pers\u00f6nlich konstruiert und in jeder freien Minute an Drehmaschine und Fr\u00e4sbank produziert. Ende Februar 1966 stellte M\u00fcnch schlie\u00dflich seinen superlativen\u00a0<strong>Prototyp<\/strong>\u00a0vor, der, wegen seiner gewaltigen Erscheinung, den Namen\u00a0<strong>Mammut<\/strong>erh\u00e4lt. Die NSU-Gesch\u00e4fstf\u00fchrung frohlockt, denn schlie\u00dflich treibt nun ein NSU-Motor das seinerzeit schnellste deutsche Motorrad in Deutschland an. Als Friedel M\u00fcnch sein erstes Vierzylinder-Motorrad vorstellt, ist er seiner Zeit \u2013 selbst gegen\u00fcber den Motorradnationen Japan und den USA \u2013 um Jahre voraus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 16px;\">In der Zeit, als das Zweiradgesch\u00e4ft in Deutschland am Boden lag, scheitert eine Serienfertigung vorerst an der Finanzierung und am Arbeitsaufwand f\u00fcr die wenigen Mitarbeiter. Die erw\u00e4hnenswerteste der vielen Erneuerungen ist die Hinterradfelge aus Elektron-Gu\u00df mit integrierter Duplex-Trommelbremse. Das neue m\u00e4chtige \u201eSchaufel-Rad\u201c, der Kettenkasten, die 4-in-2-Auspuffanlage und der Doppelscheinwerfer werden zum festen Markenzeichen der Mammut. Der neue Koloss, der den Markennamen \u201eMammut\u201c nicht tragen darf, da dieser bereits rechtlich gesch\u00fctzt war, wiegt stattliche 255 kg und beschleunigt\u00a0 in 4,5 Sekunden von 0 auf 100 km\/h. Die Nachricht von der M\u00fcnch Mammut verbreitet sich schnell. Anfragen aus aller Welt erreichen Friedel M\u00fcnch, hunderte auch aus den USA. Auf der K\u00f6lner IFMA 1966 \u2013 das neue Big Bike ist dort die gro\u00dfe Sensation \u2013 trifft M\u00fcnch den amerikanischen Verleger, Multimillion\u00e4r und Motorradfan Floyd Clymer. Dieser m\u00f6chte mit ihm als Partner eine neue Generation von Indian-Bikes produzieren. Auch an einer Serienfertigung der Mammut f\u00fcr den amerikanischen Markt ist der kapitalstarke Gesch\u00e4ftspartner und einstige US-Motorradmeister interessiert.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 16px;\">Eine alte Schmiede in Ossenheim bei Friedberg wird kurzfristig in eine Motorradfabrik umgebaut. Schon bald fertigen hier 18 Mitarbeiter die M\u00fcnch-4-Serie. Jede einzelne Maschine wird individuell, Kundenw\u00fcnsche ber\u00fccksichtigend, aufwendig von Hand hergestellt. Ab Rahmennummer oo2 wird ein neues Prim\u00e4rgeh\u00e4use mit Bosch-Anlasser, eine neue Kupplung und Z\u00fcndanlage eingebaut.\u00a0 Bis Ende 1967 werden die insgesamt 30 produzierten\u00a0<strong>M\u00fcnch-4 TT<\/strong>\u00a0Motorr\u00e4der mit den 55 PS starken NSU TT Motoren ausgestattet. Ab 1968 werden f\u00fcr die M\u00fcnch-4-Motorr\u00e4der ausschlie\u00dflich die Prinz-Version TT 1200 verwendet. Der Sohn George Bell, auch ein Motorradfan, wird der neue Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrer in der Ossenheimer \u201eM\u00fcnch-Motorradfabrik KG\u201c. Noch im gleichen Jahr erfolgt der Umzug nach Altenstadt, in ein neues Werk, eingerichtet nach dem neuesten Stand der Technik. Mittlerweile z\u00e4hlt die Belegschaft 38 Mitarbeiter. Die neue Betriebsleitung kurbelt die Produktion der M\u00fcnch-4 TTS an und unterst\u00fctzt M\u00fcnchs Ideen bei deren Weiterentwicklung. Jedoch bevor die Gewinne sprudeln, ist die Millionen-Investion aufgebraucht, die Firma hoch verschuldet. Viele Rechnungen bleiben unbezahlt. George Bell verschwindet zur\u00fcck in die USA. Ende 1971 muss die Motoradfabrik Konkurs anmelden. Der Pioniergeist des unerm\u00fcdlichen Motorradbauers l\u00e4sst sich dadurch nicht entmutigen. M\u00fcnch findet bald in einem hessischen Unternehmer einen neuen Partner. Die Firma wird zu einer GmbH. Die Produktion l\u00e4uft dann wieder auf Hochtouren. Zeitgleich setzt 1972 ein Boom der Zweir\u00e4der ein. Aus England, Italien und besonders aus Japan bem\u00fchen sich Motorradhersteller den europ\u00e4ischen Marktes zu erobern. M\u00fcnch erkennt die Marktentwicklung und begibt sich \u2013 erfolgreich \u2013 auf die Suche nach neuen technischen L\u00f6sungen: Er ersetzt den Weber-Doppelvergaser des Big Bikes durch eine moderne Einspritzanlage. Diese Modifikation erzeugt einen gewaltigen Leistungsgewinn, die Motorleistung betr\u00e4gt nun 104 PS. Ende 1973 wird M\u00fcnch von dieser Realit\u00e4t eingeholt, muss Konkurs anmelden und sogar mit seinem Privatverm\u00f6gen herhalten. Heinz W. Henke, ein Frankfurter Lebensmittelgro\u00dfh\u00e4ndler, kauft die Konkursmasse auf. Friedel M\u00fcnch wird als Technischer Leiter angestellt. Nach nur zwei Jahren verl\u00e4sst Friedel M\u00fcnch die Firma. Henke produziert weiterhin die M\u00fcnch-4 TTS mit und ohne Einspritzanlage \u2013 auch drei sogenannte\u00a0<strong>\u201eHenke-M\u00fcnch\u201c-4 TTS 1300<\/strong> entstehen in diesen Jahren. Als 1980 die Produktion endg\u00fcltig eingestellt wird, ergibt sich seit 1966 gerechnet eine Gesamtst\u00fcckzahl von 478 produzierten M\u00fcnch-R\u00e4dern.
